Bob Chakar - Educator and Administrator in Downstate New York

A downstate New York educational and administrative leader, Bob Chakar coordinates language arts and reading initiatives across his school district. Bob Chakar focuses on instilling literacy skills among vulnerable students in Yonkers and the Bronx. In-depth research into how economic status and race impact learning opportunities and his efforts to erase persistent disparities inform his work.

Moreover, Mr. Chakar has an extensive background as the superintendent of schools for the Andes Central School District. For nearly 15 years, he oversaw capital project planning, budgeting, and financing, and guided a successful $4 million construction program that elevated educational capacities. Mr. Chakar also implemented a 1:1 Laptop Program that brought digital accessibility to students between the 7th and 12th grades.

Mr. Chakar earned his bachelor’s degree in reading and elementary education at Central Connecticut State University and pursued graduate work as a reading language arts specialist there. He is a longstanding member of the Lebanese-American Club and has served on the Education Committee of African-American Men of Westchester.
